More Gift-Giving Occasions

It’s difficult to cover every gift giving opportunity, even in a comprehensive website. There are graduations, boss’s birthdays, new jobs, weddings, and many other occasions to worry about. Here are some links to other useful resources for those less common gift giving situations.

Graduation

For college and high school graduations, the theme is always functionality. New grads are unlikely to have many of the basic things they’ll need to survive on their own, so consider kitchen, home, and office goodies.

For Your Boss

The key for boss’s gifts is to stay away from anything controversial (no clothing, religious, or political gifts, please!) and to keep it inexpensive. Think tech accessories, tickets to a show or game, or some gourmet food.

Weddings

For weddings, no gift is too lavish or obscure. Stick to the registry if they have one, but instead of springing for that electric salad spinner, consider buying an orphan gift that others might pass up—something very functional and necessary for a home, but perhaps a little less exciting.

Anniversaries

Ah, the anniversary. You didn’t forget, did you? The key here is to make it personal. Homemade gifts incorporating ephemera from your past, like movie ticket stubs, photos, or plane tickets are definitely a good gift.

Office Gifts

For office gifts, play it safe, but put a little creativity and spice into it. For example, instead of picking up just an iTunes gift card, wrap it along with a nice pair of earbuds. If you really can’t think of anything, booze is usually a safe go, depending on the atmosphere of your office.

Housewarming

Obviously, home related gifts are the norm for housewarmings. Homemade food goodies are a great gift too, and come with that old timey “welcome home” vibe.
